We knew it was coming, but it still feels kind of like the end of an era. That’s right, Windows Vista and Exchange 2007 (including Small Business Server 2008), are due to hit end of life on 11th April.
It’s no secret that Vista hasn’t exactly been a favourite among computer users (just 1.22 per cent of machines are still running Vista). Still, there is something a little sad about an operating system disappearing from our lives forever. Well, kind of – Microsoft has stated that:
“If you continue to use Windows Vista after support has ended, your computer will still work but it might become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses.
“Also, as more software and hardware manufacturers continue to optimise for more recent versions of Windows, you can expect to encounter more apps and devices that do not work with Windows Vista.”
If you haven’t already, then it is definitely time to think about an upgrade. In the very least, upgrade your IT security programmes.
In comparison to Windows Vista, Exchange 2007 has a loyal following. In fact, many people still use it today. Unfortunately, the time has come for it reach end of life, in order to make way for something bigger and, hopefully, better.
Exchange 2007 (and Small Business Server 2008) won’t stop working. Rather – like Windows Vista – Microsoft will simply cease free and paid support, bug fixes and security updates. Again, this means that improved IT security for your business, school or home computers should be at the top of your list. It might seem convenient to continue running your old programme, but without the necessary protection from Microsoft, you could be in real danger of opening your computer up to some very nasty viruses.
Thankfully, we have an experienced team of computer specialists on hand to take care of upgrades for you. Not only can we supply you with the latest IT software: we will offer your computer the best anti-virus protection around. Just give us a call on 01254 877 009.
